Does the 737 800 have autoland?
The new 737-700/-800/-900 Category IIIB Autoland option (fig. 1) provides the same all-weather, precision approach autopilot guidance currently available on other Boeing airplane models. This option, which is in flight test, will be offered with the 737-700/-800/-900 over-under engine format.
What is a cat 3 approach?
ICAO and FAA definition. A category III A approach is a precision instrument approach and landing with no decision height or a decision height lower than 100ft (30m) and a runway visual range not less than 700ft (200m).
How often is Autoland used?
Autoland is typically only used when it absolute has to, which means when the weather dictates or when it needs to be used for currency requirements. ATC doesn’t care if you are going to do one, but I have heard guys give courtesy calls to the tower letting them know they’d be autolanding.
Can planes land on autopilot?
Yes a plane can land by itself using a system that is often referred to as “autoland”. The pilots can program the auto-pilot to carry out the landing automatically whilst the pilots monitor the aircraft. Automatic landings probably account for less then 1% of all landings on commercial flights.
Do pilots land manually?
While many airplanes can land by use of automation, the vast majority of landings are still done manually. Pilots are generally better at landing in more dynamic weather conditions than the automated system.
What is CAT 3b landing?
A CAT IIIB system helps with a precision approach and landing when the runway visibility is at a distance no less than 50 feet (15m) and is at a visual range less than 200 meters and most certainly not less than 50 metres. The whole process is automated.
Why do pilots not use autoland?
Autoland is stressful and labour-intensive for pilots compared with flying the plane normally down to the ground in VMC. Autoland produces less comfortable or otherwise “worse” quality landings. Using autoland is less fun or enjoyable for the pilots. The use of autoland is restricted by aviation regulations.
Do pilots actually fly the plane?
The captain also flies the plane for much of the trip, but generally trades off with the first officer at some point. The first officer, the second in command, sits on the right side of the cockpit. Typically, flight engineers are fully trained pilots, but on an ordinary trip, they don’t fly the plane.
Can a plane take off without flaps?
A: No airliners take off with full flaps. High-altitude airports and higher temperatures cause airplanes to use reduced flap settings to ensure adequate climb performance. Shorter runways require more flaps to get airborne in the shorter distance available.
Where can I get help with my PMDG 737?
You will get more responses and help at the pmdg 737ngx support forum. I do not have the 737 so no comment on your question. Are you sure you put in the correct elevation of the runway?
Can a 737 fail operational autoland and standby?
Even the much later B744 limitations state that it is not permitted to autoland at all unless a minimum of two out of its three autopilot channels remain engaged. Oh there are many fail operational 737s that do CATIIIB. Fly Dubai 737s are fail operational and they have 2 collins autopilots. You just have to pay more money to get these options.
What is the purpose of the PMDG customer Forum?
11) This forum is designed primarily as a vehicle for the PMDG development team to interact with our customers, and for customers to interact with one another in a manner that is positive, supportive and assists in the general advancement of understanding the simulation and helping to make this and future simulations better.
How many hours have I flown on a 737NG?
An avid flight simmer in my youth I’m now a Captain flying the 737NG. I’m also a qualified TRI having instructed in a Full Motion Level D sim for a European Airline. I have logged 4500 hours on the 737 (the real one) and operate from an Airport in the UK.
