Do you PVA before self Levelling?

Any new concrete or screed floor must have been left to fully cure before applying the compound. Apply a coat of concrete sealer or diluted PVA to bond the surface – start in the furthest corner from the door and work back toward it, then you won’t need to tread on coated areas.

How thick can self Levelling screed be?

Comercial self-levelling screed is used for smoothing out new or existing concrete and the screed substrates can vary in thickness from 5-40mm.

How many bags of self leveler do I need?

At half-inch thickness, a 50-pound bag of Concrete Leveler will sufficiently cover 12 to 15 square feet. For a quarter-inch-thick application, the same size bag would cover between 24 and 30 square feet.

Should I prime self Levelling compound?

Wood floors need to be primed before covering them with self leveler. The floor will be covered with water-saturated leveler, which will cause the wood to swell. It will shrink back down when it dries, which could cause cracks in the underlayment and tiles above. The primer prevents the wood from absorbing water.

Can I use PVA as a primer for self Levelling compound?

Make sure you use a proper tiling primer PVA isn’t to be used as a primer. Get an acrylic based primer.

What is the difference between floor screed and self Levelling screed?

One major difference between semi dry and self-levelling screeds is the thickness. Semi dry screeds are typically installed at greater thicknesses, typically 65 – 75 mm although this can vary depending on how the screed is to be installed i.e. bonded, unbonded or floating on insulation.

How do you lay self level screed?

To lay a self levelling floor screed or compound you should:

  1. Ensure surface is dust free by giving it a good sweeping and then run over it with a vacuum.
  2. Using a suitable bucket, mix the compound with a mixer paddle until the required consistency is obtained (again, check the manufacturer’s instructions).
