Is Cakewalk SONAR dead?
Cakewalk, the company, closed in November 2017. Any Cakewalk programs to that date were effectively discontinued by this closure. BandLab acquired the IP and certain related assets to Cakewalk in 2018, and released Cakewalk by BandLab shortly after.

The BandLab Assistant acts as an install manager for Cakewalk by BandLab similar to how Native Access acts as an install manager for Native Instrument products, IKMultimedia has their install manager, Sonar Command Center acts as an install manager for Sonar products and so on.

The key difference is that Cakewalk does not include some of the 3rd party plug-ins that were bundled with SONAR Platinum. As Cakewalk is now a free program, it does not include any licensed 3rd party plug-ins.
