These pesky larvae, also known as mango flies or skin maggot flies, like to make their home underneath the skin of your beloved pet. Untreated, a mango worm infestation can lead to all sorts of problems.
What is the life cycle of a bot fly?
Incubation time within the host is anywhere from 5 to 12 weeks. After the conclusion of the third instar, the larvae will emerge from the host, drop to the ground, and begin pupa formation. Under warm and human conditions, an adult botfly will emerge after 2 weeks and have a life expectancy of 9 to 12 days.

What does myiasis look like?
Typical symptoms of furuncular myiasis include itching, a sensation of movement, and sometimes sharp, stabbing pain. At first, people have a small red bump that may resemble a common insect bite or the beginning of a pimple (furuncle). Later, the bump enlarges, and a small opening may be visible at the center.
How long does it take for a BOT egg to hatch?
Depending on the species, females deposit from a few hundred to 1,000 eggs during their life time. Eggs of the common horse bot hatch after a 2- to 5-day incubation period, often stimulated by warmth and moisture from the animal’s tongue. Eggs of the other species may hatch without stimulation.
How fast do maggots multiply?
It may take anywhere from two hours to three days for them to hatch from eggs; likewise, it may take six hours to five months for them to develop into adults.
