A LETTER FROM THE DEAN

April, 2009

Dear Alumni and Friends:

As we draw close to the end of another academic year, I am pleased to share with you our Spring 2009 E-Newsletter.  I believe you will see that the College continues to move forward in providing a positive educational experience for our students.

As always, we have experienced changes during the past year.  We have welcomed a new Director of the Oklahoma Geological Survey, new faculty in Petroleum and Geological Engineering, and a new Director of Development for the college.

As you will see from the various articles, our students continue to perform in an outstanding manner and have received recognition for their performance.  Our faculty has also continued to provide strong research and teaching, and some of these activities are highlighted in the Earth & Energy magazine coming in August 2009.

We are also seeing the direct benefits of our plans to upgrade our labs and other teaching facilities.  I would like to take this opportunity to again thank our alumni, industry and other supporters for their help in making this happen.  As is the case with most organizations, we are feeling the effects of the current economic downturn; but, with the continued support of our
constituents, I believe that the college will come through this even stronger and better.  As such, I believe that it is appropriate for us to continue our practice of highlighting some of our key alums and their accomplishments, as you will read in our "Alumni" section of the second edition of Earth & Energy magazine.

I hope that you enjoy the articles featured in our E-Newsletter and welcome your thoughts or suggestions.

Sincerely,

Larry R. Grillot, Dean
