LETTER FROM THE DEAN

December 2009

Dear Alumni and Friends:

As the fall semester draws to a close, we are reminded of this special time of year as the holidays and exams approach. We have had a busy and productive semester with increased student enrollment in both schools and the addition of new faculty and staff.

Units within our college have either hosted or traveled to conferences and meetings where our faculty and students continue to be recognized for their outstanding achievements, some of which are highlighted in this E-Newsletter. Our students have taken active roles in college and university-wide affairs as well as community projects. One such activity was establishing the college's free tutoring program for MCEE students this past fall.

We continue to move forward on our classroom, lab and building renovations, and our students can look forward to having access to a state-of-the-art digital drilling simulator at this university in the spring. Despite these hard economic times, our donors have remained steadfast with their support. Some of the alumni highlights of this past year have included the Seed Sower award, which was presented to Bill and Gayle Parker at a co-sponsored event with the College of Engineering at the Anatole Hotel in Dallas on Oct. 14, and the
Trailblazer Award, which was presented to Lew O. Ward III on Nov. 13 at a dinner in Oklahoma Memorial Union.

Our college bid farewell to Roger Young, associate professor in the ConocoPhillips School of Geology and Geophysics, who passed away in November. He was well loved by his students and gained the respect of all. He will truly be missed.

So, as the holiday season approaches, I wish you and your family best wishes from the Mewbourne College.

Regards,

Larry R. Grillot, Dean
