Sarah Harris, a senior in the Mewbourne School of Petroleum and Geological Engineering, was honored with the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy's 2009 Outstanding Senior award at a ceremony in Oklahoma Memorial Union on Nov. 13. As part of the award, Harris was presented with a check in the amount of $500 by Dean Larry R. Grillot at the MCEE Board of Visitors meeting earlier that day. Harris' honors and activities include: ConocoPhillips SPIRIT Scholar, OU Honors Scholar, OERB Scholar, OU SPE Outstanding Sophomore, DAC Tutor Coordinator, OU SPE Vice President 2009-2010 and PET President 2008-2009. Her parents are Jim and Karen Vich of Locust Grove, Okla.

This past fall, the DAC established a weekly tutoring program for MCEE students needing assistance in upper level petroleum engineering and geology courses. Students have access to qualified instructors six hours a week in each of these areas. The DAC, which is made up of members from the various student organizations within the MCEE, meets monthly with the Dean to advise him on student matters.
MPGE Students Come Up Winners
Daniel Nicksic and Mahomad Bachir are recipients of the American Association of Drilling Engineers' Nate Fleming Memorial Scholarship. Each student will receive $1000 per semester for up to four years in accordance with the scholarship requirements. AADE also awarded a one-time $500.00 scholarship to each of the following students: David Brasher, Nicholas Goree, Siavash Monfared, Dean Parrish, Barrett Zuskind, Ryan Buck, Mfon Usoro and Adegoke Ajisafe. John Wampler, John Ammon and Andrew Curthoys were each awarded $500 by the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program in the Honors College to conduct research with Carl Sondergeld, MCEE associate dean and professor of petroleum engineering. The students will present their research projects at OU's Undergraduate Research Day next April.
